Interactive outreach and science communication in Munich

BeyondBio is a new joint outreach initiative from the BMC and Biocenter that gives Munich-area school pupils an interactive, first-hand look at university research and careers in the life sciences. Its pilot visit took a Year 12 class in Gilching, Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium,  through a discussion on CRISPR research and biology studies, plus a hands-on pipetting station. Great to see our IRTG coordinator Verena Kochan out there helping make science tangible for the next generation of students.

About the initiative: BeyondBIO is a free, student-run education initiative from Finn Heinemann, that goes into schools to show pupils the real breadth of biology—covering everything from neurobiology to bioinformatics—and demystify what studying and working in the field is actually like. It combines talks on specific subfields with practical insights (career paths, a "day in the life" of a biology student, workload/exam realities) to counter outdated stereotypes about the subject.
